Captain Dean Kokinda began his law enforcement career in 1989 as a Patrol Deputy at the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. During his career he has served in the positions of Patrol Deputy, Forensic Technician, Latent Print Examiner, Criminal Investigations Lieutenant, Cold Case Investigator, and Lieutenant in the Technical and Support Services Division. He is proud of the 25 years he served in the Forensic Services Unit where in 1990 he became the very first forensic technician at the Sheriff’s Office. He is also honored at the opportunities he had to expand the use of science in criminal investigations in the County, while also increasing the size and capabilities of the unit, until he left to be the Lieutenant in the Criminal Investigations Division.

He is graduated with honors with an Associate Degree in Public Service from Trident Technical College in 2005 and has received numerous advanced trainings in the field of forensics.

He has been married to his wife Michelle for 16 years and they share 5 children together. When he isn’t working at the Sheriff’s Office he spends his time as the Camp Ranger at the Boy Scout camp on Lake Moultrie in Moncks Corner.
