He began his Law Enforcement career in 1987 under former Sheriff M.C. Cannon, where he worked as a patrol deputy.

Through his many years of service with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Major Phyall has attained many achievements, to include, being accepted and graduating from the prestigious National FBI Academy in Quantico, Va., 2003.

He is presently the Operations Major at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center under Sheriff Duane Lewis.

After graduating from Macedonia High School, Major Phyall continued his educational endeavors by attending Claflin University, a historically black college, Orangeburg, S.C., obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Education Degree, 1984.

Over his many years of service with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Mjr. Phyall has displayed honor, loyalty and integrity to the profession that has served him well. He is a member of New Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, in Jamestown, and is married to his wife Thelma Phyall, who works at Berkeley Electric Cooperative. They have three sons, one of whom pursued a career in law enforcement through the Department of Mental Health, Columbia, S.C.

Major Phyall is a life-long resident of Berkeley County where he was born and raised. He attended and graduated from Macedonia High School in 1980.
